We are working with a leading global maritime software provider to find a Professional Services Consultant – Commercial to join their team. This is a fully remote role reporting to the Professional Services Director.
Overview of Role
The Professional Services Consultant (Commercial) makes sure customers get real, lasting value from the Commercial Management solution, not just a system that has been switched on. Implementation is the starting point, not the finish line. This role brings genuine shipping commercial experience to every engagement, runs delivery with the discipline of an experienced project manager, and keeps looking for ways to take quality and value further: sharper processes, better use of data and AI, and services that improve how a customer’s commercial operation runs long after go-live.
Key Responsibilities
Outcome-Led Delivery: Own the quality of every engagement from start to finish. Agree with the customer what “done” means in business terms, then hold delivery to that standard.
Implementation Delivery: Lead end-to-end implementations of the Commercial Management solution, covering requirements gathering, solution design, configuration, data migration, testing, training, and go-live.
Project Management: Ensure implementations run with practical project discipline: clear plans, realistic milestones, controlled scope, and visible risks and dependencies.
Commercial Process Consulting: Assess customers’ chartering, voyage operations, and post-fixture processes, and recommend improvements based on industry best practice.
Value-Added Services: Constantly assess ways to extend quality and value for the customer through health-check reviews, advisory consulting, and AI-enabled insights.
Commercial Partnership: Work with Account Managers to identify, scope, and estimate service opportunities.
Service Governance: Bring in repeatable, high-value services, challenge low-value custom requests, and escalate product gaps to R&D.
Building Customer Capability: Leave customers more self-sufficient through knowledge transfer and practical training.
Key Competencies
Real Shipping Experience: Hands-on experience in shipping commercial operations such as chartering, voyage estimation, freight, hire, laytime, demurrage, and post-fixture.
Practical Project Management: Proven track record of running customer-facing implementations from start to finish.
Consultative Capability: Diagnoses business problems before proposing a solution and is comfortable respectfully challenging customer assumptions.
Commercial Awareness: Understands how services create value and can spot, shape, and scope opportunities.
Systems Fluency: Confident configuring enterprise or SaaS software and handling data migration.
Communication: Clear, confident written and verbal communication across all stakeholder levels.
Security Awareness: Applies secure data-handling practices appropriate to the role.
Behaviours We’re Looking For
Outcome-owning: Treats go-live as the start, not the finish.
Value-seeking: Always curious about how the customer’s commercial business runs and what would make it better.
AI in the Way You Work: Uses AI as a thinking partner in day-to-day delivery.
Organised: Runs a tight ship with clear plans and tracked actions.
Judgement-led: Brings judgement as well as questions to distinguish requests from needs.
Commercially minded: Spots opportunities and keeps the CRM up to date.
Honest: Comfortable saying when something is a product gap or off-track.
Growth-minded: Treats feedback as information and owns personal development.
Collaborative: Actively works across departments to ensure quality solutions.
