Title: Structural Marine Engineer
Location: Bergen, Norway (Hybrid)
About the role
Join a global leader in marine and offshore classification as a Structural Marine Engineer in a growing Bergen office. You’ll work on plan approval for a wide variety of new build and existing vessels across both marine and offshore sectors, as part of a supportive, experienced team.
What you’ll be doing
- Reviewing vessel structure, stability, load line, tonnage, and fire safety documentation for new build and existing ships
- Cargo securing and equipment installation reviews
- Vessel structure scantling review
- Stability modelling and review
- Load line and tonnage calculations
- Fire and safety plan review
- General plan approval work across a variety of marine and offshore vessels and units
- Working directly with surveyors and stakeholders to resolve technical queries
- Starting under guidance and building toward working autonomously as you develop
What you’ll need
- A degree in Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline
- Exposure to Finite Element Method (FEM), whether through coursework, research, or professional experience
- Good written and spoken English
- Strong problem-solving ability and a collaborative mindset
Nice to have (not essential)
- Familiarity with Class Rules and statutory regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL, MODU Code, etc.)
- Experience with structural or stability analysis software
- Exposure to vessel design (yachts, tugs, tankers, offshore units)
- Familiarity with shipbuilding practices
