Job Title: Marine Surveyor

Who are we recruiting for?

We are recruiting for a distinguished client in the maritime sector who is seeking a qualified and motivated Surveyor to join their strong and award-winning team. This intermediate-level position is ideal for those ready to enhance their expertise under the supervision and guidance of experienced field surveyors.

What will you be doing?

With the assistance and guidance of an experienced Senior Surveyor, you will:

  • Act as a professional specialist in the application of related rules, regulations, requirements, concepts, principles, and processes.
  • Perform routine surveys on classed vessels, platforms, or other marine structures and at manufacturers for classification and compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Prepare technically accurate and timely reports of inspections and surveys performed.
  • Engage with clients to resolve problems within areas of expertise.
  • Maintain survey files in an orderly and up-to-date manner in the area of responsibility.
  • Develop skills necessary for the administration of office procedures and monitoring of business performance at an assigned port.

Are you the ideal candidate?

  • Holds qualifications from a tertiary institution within a relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum two-year program); or
  • Has qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant seagoing experience as a certificated ship officer.
  • Has a minimum of three years of experience working as a Surveyor I or a minimum of five years of experience in an engineering or survey capacity within the marine industry or other applicable industry.
  • Possesses appropriate certification and/or licenses in areas of specialization, if required.
  • Develops a working knowledge of Classification Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and related instructions, as well as the Employee Safety Policy.
  • Can read engineering plans and has a basic understanding of shipbuilding practices and vessel operations.
  • Performs surveys in the prescribed format and has knowledge of computer programs or software packages related to job responsibilities.
  • Understands ships’ engineering systems and machinery.
  • Communicates effectively in English, both orally and in writing, pertinent information relative to the assigned area of technical expertise.
  • Analyzes problems and proposes solutions.
  • Is responsive to customers and works well with others.
  • Obtains a working knowledge of the Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems.
  • Through broader and more technically challenging work assignments, develops a thorough understanding of field operations, policies, methods, and procedures.
