Our client is a pioneering leader in advanced marine robotics and autonomous systems. They are using and creating technology to transform operations at sea to enable people and the planet to thrive. They are fearless in their approach to innovation, challenge everything, and have massive ambitions to drag aging industries into the tech era. Safety, equality, and responsibility matter and they believe there’s a more environmentally responsible way to operate at sea.
They are seeking a talented and purpose-driven Software Engineer to join their expanding global technology team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to world-first innovation in remote and sustainable subsea and surface operations.

What will you be doing?

  • Developing high-performance software in modern C++ (C++11 or later) for robotics and real-time control systems
  • Supporting autonomous underwater and high-speed surface vehicles with mission-critical on board software
  • Writing reliable software for navigation, mission execution, fault management, and sensor integration
  • Designing communications interfaces (serial, satellite, acoustic) and managing challenging edge cases like low bandwidth or lost links
  • Building safety-critical subsystems including fallback modes, health monitoring, and emergency handling
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to integrate sensors, data, and autonomy
  • Testing, deploying, and refining systems for use in real-world offshore and subsea environments
  • Participating in design reviews, simulations, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and sea trials

Are you the ideal candidate?

Essential:

  • Proven experience with modern C++ (C++11/14/17) in production environments (ideally within safety- or mission-critical applications)
  • Strong background in real-time or embedded software systems (e.g., RTOS, bare metal, or Linux-based platforms)
  • Comfortable with Ubuntu/Linux development workflows and Git
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team
  • Strong sense of ownership, you take initiative, simplify where possible, and follow through on commitments
  • Resilience and adaptability, you stay focused when things change or when iterations are needed
  • Commitment to safety and quality, you understand the system-level impact of your code and act accordingly

Desirable:

  • Understanding of navigation, control systems, and sensor fusion
  • Experience with serial and low-bandwidth communications (e.g. RS-232/485, acoustic, satellite)
  • Knowledge of geodetic calculations or coordinate transformation systems
  • Familiarity with compact data encoding standards like DCCL
  • Field experience deploying, testing, or troubleshooting autonomous systems in operational environments

What’s in it for you?

  • Work on a truly unique and award-winning mission to transform ocean operations
  • Flexible working hours with remote-friendly arrangements
  • Competitive salary, performance bonus, and pension scheme
  • Opportunities for rapid professional growth in a vibrant, tech-driven environment
