Position: Head of Commercial Operations

Who are we recruiting for:
We are supporting a well-established and growing organisation operating within the European energy sector, with a strong focus on renewable energy and power markets. The company is actively expanding its commercial platform and is now looking to strengthen its internal capabilities by building a robust and scalable commercial operations function.
This role will play a key part in ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and the smooth execution of commercial activities across multiple markets.
What will you be doing:
-Lead the setup, structuring, and continuous improvement of the commercial operations and back-office function supporting energy trading and commercial activities.
-Oversee the management and administration of Guarantees of Origin (GOs), ensuring full compliance and optimisation of certification processes (excluding sales activities).
-Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks such as REMIT and MiFID II, including transaction reporting, monitoring, and internal controls.
-Design and implement efficient operational processes across contract management, settlements, and data flows related to energy trading and commercial agreements.
-Own and enhance reporting frameworks, ensuring accurate, timely, and insightful reporting for internal stakeholders and senior management.
-Coordinate closely with Trading, Origination, Risk, Finance, and Asset Management teams to ensure seamless execution of commercial activities.
-Support the onboarding of new markets, products, and counterparties from an operational and regulatory perspective.
-Drive automation and digitalisation initiatives across the commercial operations function to improve efficiency and scalability.
-Act as the key point of contact for audits, compliance checks, and external stakeholders related to commercial operations.
Are you the ideal candidate?
-5–10+ years of experience in commercial operations, back office, or middle office functions within energy trading, utilities, or renewable energy platforms.
-Strong experience in setting up or managing back-office processes supporting trading or commercial energy activities.
-Solid understanding of Guarantees of Origin (GOs) management and certification processes.
-In-depth knowledge of regulatory frameworks such as REMIT and MiFID II, including reporting obligations.
-Experience in contract management, settlements, and operational workflows linked to energy markets.
-Strong analytical and organisational skills, with attention to detail and process optimisation mindset.
-Proven ability to build processes from scratch and operate in a scaling environment.
-Comfortable working cross-functionally with commercial, trading, finance, and risk teams.
-Fluent English required; German and/or other European languages are a plus.
-Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, or a related field.
