Job title: Head of HSSE
Location: Remote – UK-wide travel
Who are we recruiting for?
Our client is a leading renewable energy business on a mission to deliver safe, sustainable, and resilient power generation across the UK. They are seeking a Qualified and highly motivated Head of HSSE to provide strategic leadership and act as the company’s competent person under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
What will you be doing?
As Head of HSSE, you will be the Winner shaping and driving a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. This is a unique sole-practitioner role with significant influence, giving you the autonomy to set the agenda and create impact. Duties include:
Acting as the company’s competent source of HSSE advice, guiding board members, senior leaders, and employees.
Designing and delivering a forward-looking HSSE strategy aligned with business and ESG goals.
Leading compliance, risk management, and governance across the full renewable energy portfolio.
Driving performance through robust policies, audits, investigations, and contractor management.
Representing the business at national forums, regulatory discussions, and industry bodies.
Building a proactive safety culture, embedding HSSE in every decision and developing capability across all teams and contractors.
Leading emergency preparedness, ensuring resilience, business continuity, and public safety.
Collaborating with ESG colleagues to integrate HSSE into sustainability and innovation initiatives.
Are you the ideal candidate?
The successful candidate will be an Inspired leader who is determined, focused, and commercially astute. You will bring:
Chartered or Fellow membership of IOSH (or working towards).
Proven track record in senior HSSE leadership, ideally within energy, construction, or infrastructure.
In-depth knowledge of UK H&S legislation and management systems.
Strong experience acting as an organisation’s competent person under law, with expertise in CDM 2015.
Confidence engaging and influencing at board level.
A creative, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to lead through complexity.
