Job Title: Technical Design Manager

Who are we recruiting for?
Our client, a global leader in renewable energy assets development with operations across multiple countries, is seeking a Technical Design Manager to join their dynamic team. With recent expansion into the UK market and ambitious growth plans, they are looking for a qualified and motivated individual to support their Marine project development initiatives.
What will you be doing?
As a Technical Design Manager, you will play a pivotal role in the early development stages of high-voltage distribution and transmission infrastructure within or near ports. Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading technical development efforts, ensuring compliance with marine industry-specific standards.
- Collaborating with UK ports and safety personnel in a project delivery capacity.
- Managing the design and construction of high-voltage infrastructure, including cables, transformers, CBs, substations, BESS, AIS, GIS, ranging from 33kV to 400kV.
- Demonstrating expertise in the UK and international marine industry, including knowledge of key players, regulators, and initiatives such as electrification and decarbonization.
- Utilizing your experience in project development or delivery within UK or international ports, understanding ship power systems, shore power connections, floating power, and marine energy generation.
- Supporting multiple project initiatives and effectively leading teams of consultants or internal staff in delivering technical solutions and designs for power systems.
Role Accountabilities:
- Taking strong ownership of projects and managing external consultants for engineering-driven project development.
- Leading technical aspects such as BIM, 3D CAD design, and Digital Twins.
- Collaborating with other teams on land, planning, and grid connection aspects and contributing to budgeting and strategy setting.
- Supporting project development on various client initiatives, with a focus on on-land delivery, although the projects are marine-related.

To excel in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:
Essentials:
- Technical savviness, innovative problem-solving, and an entrepreneurial mindset.
- 5-10 years of experience in high to mid low voltage technical design or delivery, with specific experience in the marine industry.
- In-depth knowledge of marine requirements, regulations, technical standards, OEM offerings, and design requirements.
- Project management and leadership experience in the energy and power sector.
- Familiarity with energy and power project lifecycles and risks in large-scale utility projects.
- Proficiency in BIM, 3D CAD, 3D design, and digital twin software.
- Strong leadership abilities, excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently and lead teams effectively.
- Flexibility in work approach and willingness to travel regularly within the UK.
- Experience in renewable energy project development is a plus.
- Track record of supporting multiple project teams.
Desirables:
- Capability to manage multiple business initiatives, clients, and projects concurrently.
- Master’s degree, PhD, or innovation research background preferred.
- Adaptability to fast-paced development schedules.
