Job Title: Senior Maritime Consultant

Who are we recruiting for?
Our client is a leading specialist in shipping, navigation, and maritime risk. They are dedicated to empowering the marine sector to create a sustainable and accident-free maritime environment through better understanding and mitigation of maritime risks and impacts.
What will you be doing?
As a Senior Maritime Consultant, you will:
- Lead technical aspects of Navigation Risk Assessments, including interpreting maritime vessel traffic data and preparing for stakeholder engagement meetings.
- Provide navigation risk subject matter expertise, ranging from practical marine input to quantitative risk analysis.
- Analyze navigation data, from basic Excel analysis to creating complex spatio-temporal navigation risk models.
- Manage complex Shipping and Navigation projects, including subcontractor and junior staff management.
- Interface with environmental and engineering decision-makers to determine navigation impacts and appropriate mitigations.
- Author report chapters and provide content for tender submissions.
- Support wider business development activities.
Are you the ideal candidate?
You are the ideal candidate if you have:
- At least 5 years’ professional experience in maritime consultancy or a regulatory/port environment.
- A relevant numerate university degree (e.g., science, engineering, geography, or risk/mathematics).
- Experience conducting or contributing to Navigation Risk Assessments.
- Detailed understanding of legislative requirements for Shipping and Navigation in maritime infrastructure developments.
- Self-motivation, a passion for challenges, and excellent computer literacy.
- Exceptional report writing and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with clients and stakeholders.
- Experience coordinating or undertaking marine technical reports and drafting technical and commercial proposals.
Desirable qualifications include:
- Structured thinking skills with problem-solving ability.
- Experience leading large and complex Navigation Risk Assessments.
- Experience as a navigation expert witness in significant infrastructure projects.
- Conducting marine, maritime, or navigation Quantitative Risk Assessments.
- Membership and chartered status with a relevant professional institution.
- A Master’s or higher degree with research focusing on navigation safety/risk.
- Recognized Project Management Qualification.
