Job title: Senior Legal Counsel – Oil and Gas

What will you be doing?

  • Provide strategic legal advice to internal business partners on exploration, production, development projects, business development, and corporate matters.
  • Lead and manage legal aspects of complex international transactions, including business development efforts, asset-level acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and major project developments.
  • Draft and negotiate various upstream agreements, including leases, assignments, gas/oil sales, purchase/sale agreements, joint operating agreements, and other contracts related to oil and gas operations.
  • Partner with other attorneys on commercial transactions related to special projects, joint ventures, and acquisitions.
  • Identify and counsel business lines on potential risks, claims, and disputes arising from commercial contracts, proposing practical solutions.
  • Advise on the impact of proposed local and international laws and regulations on the company’s activities.
  • Coordinate and manage outside counsel during due diligence activities and for regulatory, tax, and local jurisdiction advice.
  • Manage matters related to local real estate, employment, and corporate governance.

Are you the ideal candidate?

  • LLB, LLD, or recognized equivalent.
  • Licensed to practice law in Portugal; dual qualification in common law and civil law jurisdiction is preferred.
  • Fluent in business and legal English (oral and written).
  • 7+ years of experience in a fast-paced environment, with some law firm experience preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of the technical, contractual, and commercial aspects of oil and gas operations.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills with the ability to articulate complex legal issues clearly.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
