Job Title: Senior Consultant – Harbour Master

Who are we recruiting for?
We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated Senior Maritime Consultant for our client, a leader in the marine and consents sector. This unique, award-winning organization specializes in shipping, navigation, and maritime risk, with a mission to empower the marine sector towards a sustainable and accident-free environment.
What will you be doing?
- Leading UK Port Marine Safety Code services, including external audits, formal risk assessments, and Designated Person services.
- Developing Marine Safety Management Systems.
- Interfacing with environmental and engineering decision-makers to assess potential navigation impacts and develop appropriate mitigations.
- Leading the technical aspects of Navigation Risk Assessments by:
- Interpreting maritime vessel traffic data to characterize shipping traffic and extract key metrics.
- Preparing for and contributing to stakeholder engagement meetings.
- Providing harbour master and mariner subject matter expertise.
- Authoring report chapters.
- Contributing to tender submissions and supporting wider business development activities.
- Managing projects to ensure quality, time, and costs are managed effectively.
Are you the ideal candidate?
- At least 5 years’ professional experience in maritime consultancy, regulatory, or port environment.
- A relevant university degree (e.g., science, engineering, geography, or risk/mathematics).
- Maritime domain background (e.g., mariner, harbour master, VTS).
- Self-motivation, passion, and appetite for a challenge.
- Excellent computer literacy and competency with MS Office suite, particularly MS Word and Excel.
- Excellent report writing, English language, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with initiative and as part of a team, with clients and stakeholders.
- Detailed knowledge of the Port Marine Safety Code.
- Experience in drafting, reviewing, and operating port/harbour Safety Management Systems.
- Experience in coordinating or undertaking marine technical reports and navigation risk assessments.
Desirable:
- Structured thinking skills with the ability to identify and solve problems.
- Experience as a harbour master within a large port environment.
- Industry presence and network.
- Membership and chartered status (or progression towards) with a relevant professional institution.
- Experience in managing projects and coordinating tasks.
