What will you be doing?
As a Technical & Quality Officer, you will be responsible and give oversight to Flag inspection, Port State inspections, liaise with shipowners, managers and recognised organisation and nautical inspectors in respect to client vessels and crew. Part of this role will include representing the Ship Registry to clients and at meetings with the IMO and other bodies as required. This person will also be responsible for conducting technical review of vessels proposed for registration and make appropriate recommendations to the Principle Registrar.
The key responsibilities of the post include:
To deputise for the Principal registrar and assist with the appointment and allocation of nautical inspectors;
To manage and give oversight to flag inspection regime and instigate appropriate follow-up measures as required.
To manage and give oversight to Port State inspections and detentions and initiate appropriate measures as required.
To follow up outstanding deficiencies and non-conformities following Flag and PSC inspections, surveys and audits.
To liaise with ship owners, managers, recognised organisations and nautical inspectors;
To ensure that vessels' technical files are prepared and correctly maintained;
To Represent the Ship Registry with clients and at meetings of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and other bodies as required including active participation in working and correspondent group discussions;
To Conduct technical review of vessels proposed for registration and make appropriate recommendations to the Principal Registrar.
To develop and revise internal procedures, policies and templates ;
To ensure the Ship Registry's Quality Management System conforms to IMO and ISO 9001 regulatory requirements
To report to the Principal Registrar on the performance of the QMS (e.g., results of quality audits, corrective actions), including the need for improvement.
Are you the ideal candidate?
The ideal candidate will have a wide knowledge of the International Maritime Conventions and Codes with seagoing experience or Marine Surveying experience. ISO audit experience is not required but is advantageous. The ideal candidate is someone who is willing to learn, wanting to progress their career and has a good work ethic.
This person will need to have efficient, effective and professional communication skills with good level of computer literacy. The successful candidate will be required to work in the London office but will also have the opportunity to work from home. This person will be required to live in a commuting distance from the office in London and have the rights to work and live in the UK.
Master Mariner (STCW II/2 certificate), Chief Engineer (STCW III/3 certificate) OR Master Degree in Naval Architecture
Knowledge of International Maritime Conventions and Codes
ISO Audit is not required but advantageous
Strong report writing skills
