Our client is a leading independent consultancy providing an extensive range of specialist services to organisations around the world involved in marine and offshore technical projects. Their team of engineers, mariners and specialist consultants works closely with energy companies, offshore and marine contractors, underwriters, insurance brokers and many others, to deliver tailor-made project risk mitigation, engineering and incident investigation services

What will you be doing?

We are seeking an experienced Cable Specialist to bolster our existing team and expand their capabilities within the subsea cable sector.

The candidate can expect to be involved in a wide range of projects involving the installation and repair of sub-sea cables of all types, therefore requires to have a good understanding of the practical aspects of subsea cable design and installation, including both power and telecommunications cables.

It is expected that they will be able to exhibit knowledge and experience from the subsea cable industry including; contract negotiation, design, testing, cable handling, laying and shore landing operations. Experience should also include cable protection and burial and the preparation of cable crossings. Knowledge of cable protection regulations, the role of ICPC, CIGRE, crossing agreements and telecommunications cable maintenance agreements would be an advantage.

The role will include:

  • Input into and execution of the planned growth and development of the company's cable consultancy services;

  • Providing advice and guidance, consultancy services, including feasibility studies and engineering projects;

  • Support of clients in the capacity of Owners Engineer;

  • Support of marine warranty projects, particularly in the renewable energy sector, providing review of cable installation and repair procedures and method statements;

  • Attending on-site (onshore and offshore) to witness and approve operations;

  • Providing expert advice to marine insurers and legal investigations;

  • Client development to introduce and deliver new business to the Company

Are you the ideal candidate?

To be successful, you will need to demonstrate the following qualifications, professional expertise and personal attributes:

  • Appropriate professional qualifications; it is likely that these will reflect a marine deck or engineering background although equivalent cable-based experience in other disciplines will also be actively considered;

  • Practical experience of cable installation and protection operations within the offshore energy and/or subsea cable industries;

  • Enthusiasm, motivation and drive to deliver a top quality service;

  • A confident and pro-active attitude with strong attention to detail;

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

  • Previous experience as a marine warranty surveyor would be an advantage;

  • Knowledge and application of the relevant rules, codes and guidelines for the above areas.

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following skills:

  • Highly organised - with the ability to work under pressure when required, manage and prioritise their own workload and that of others;

  • Commercial acumen - Ability to identify and understand customers' needs to formulate effective solutions and to balance their needs with commercial interests of the company;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, producing reports of the highest standards;

  • Team player who is keen to contribute to the further development of the company.

This position requires a diligent professional individual who is keen to further develop their career within an expanding engineering and marine consultancy company. The work is likely to require a significant element of travel, occasionally at short notice, and offshore attendance as may be reasonably required by the Company.
