Responsibilities:
Take primary responsibility for mechanical design and development of Anemoi's equipment, from concept through to detailed design, testing, and final signoff
Specify and drive design improvements for development by the internal engineering team or with external consultants as required, to optimize functionality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness
Work with existing and new manufacturers to supply mechanical equipment in line with designs and specifications, and to the quality and cost required by the company
Support the commissioning and operation of the technology on ships
Direct the development of operation and maintenance manuals and procedures
Direct testing programs to support R&D, design, validation, and troubleshooting
Contribute to the development of Anemoi's intellectual property portfolio
Supervise and guide engineers working on mechanical design and testing, both within Anemoi and with our consultants and suppliers
Problem-solve when required, using structured methodologies e.g. 8D
Requirements:
Mechanical design, ideally of industrial machinery for harsh environments within the marine or offshore industry
Detailed understanding of engineering mechanics and dynamics
Designing with and specifying materials including steels, bronzes, aluminium alloys, engineering polymers, elastomers, coatings, and lubricants
Designing with and specifying off-the-shelf and (where necessary) bespoke mechanical components and sensors including seals, plain and rolling bearings, hydraulic cylinders, hydraulic and electrical motors, gears and gearboxes, shafts, bushes, clamps, pins, fasteners, and springs
Developing designs optimized for manufacturability, reliability, maintainability, and cost
Specifying and overseeing the testing of prototype components and assemblies to demonstrate reliability and improve performance and cost
Experience with Excel, MatLab, AutoCAD, and 3D modelling software
Experience of using FEA software, specifying appropriate FEA modeling methods and interpreting FEA results for solid (e.g. cast/forged) and welded plate structures
Ability to manage specialist multi-disciplinary engineering consultants and suppliers
Experience of working with Classification Societies and applying their rules and regulations for designs
Experience with condition-based monitoring (CBM) systems would be advantageous
